Concepts of Masterpiece Painting
Mankind has always sought to express himself in an impressive eternal manner. Legends surround the hand painted ceilings in old world cathedrals and theaters. Throughout history, the preeminent and foremost artisans were always highly sought after.
Today, renewed interest for the art form abounds. We seek to express individuality in an effort to stand apart from the rest. A hand painted mural serves to effectively express that which is personal and touch the emotions of a whole new era of realization for the new millennia.
Art as a Capital Asset
Rare and unusual art is highly collectable and has appreciative value. The classic framed oil on canvas is what generally comes to mind when we recall the painted pieces that have impressed us the most. Vanderbilt searched the globe for treasures to fill his Ashville, North Carolina mansion. In Europe he found a most impressive ceiling mural called "The Arrival of Dawn". He was able to transport this masterpiece because the work had been done on canvas.
An important point to consider when commissioning mural artwork is the distinction between artwork painted directly on a permanent substrate, such as a wall, or painting it on what would qualify as a transportable substrate. A masterpiece on canvas qualifies as an investment that can be traded and transported. An attractive reason to consider this method is that all work, except installation, can take place in the artists studio.

How I Charge
Pricing is formulated using a combination of factors. Major determinates of price are size and complexity. Other factors are materials, travel costs and additional details. For the sake of you being able to provide an estimate on the spot, I have reviewed several recent murals and find that by using a square foot formula, you may calculate costs and margins.
$15.00 to $25.00 per square foot is for the average mural in the home. Trompe L’oeil and intense detail can cost up to $45.00 per square foot. Mega murals cost less per square foot and commissioned canvas paintings have a different pricing formula altogether.
