The Art of Gold Leaf Gilding is the most luxurious of all the painters effects. Actually it is not Painted. The thin delicate leafs of genuine gold are carefully applied into "size", a medium specifically prepared to receive and secure the gold. These processes are known as gilding. Two distinct methods are utilized to gild. One produces the mirror effect on glass as shown above. The other method is used for all the rest and is known as surface gilding. The two different procedures utilize either water or oil size.
